We are looking for a communications and marketing officer to join us and bring their experience, creative drive and best industry practice to play in this key role at Rotherham Council.
Our communications team is located at the heart of our organisation and has a big role to play in helping everyone internally to feel part of the Council as well as ensuring the visibility, reputation and management of our brand externally.
You will be a communications professional who connects with our purpose, vision and values.
You know what it takes to deliver a best in class communications service to a large complex public facing organisation.
You will know and understand the importance of our external profile and brand.
You will be able to manage effective communications, particularly within the current challenging financial climate and the continually changing communications landscape.
The role
As a communication and marketing officer you'll help to ensure we're the best we can be through the planning, creation and delivery of high quality, timely and relevant communications which keep residents, stakeholders and the media connected to our corporate strategy, progress, values and culture.
Some of the things you'll be involved in include:
Planning, researching and creating compelling content campaigns, which aim to put residents at the front and centre of everything we do.
Developing new ways of communication while maintaining and developing the content and functionality of our centrally managed channels
Handling media enquiries, working on both a proactive and reactive basis so that journalists and influencers commenting on us get to hear our point of view swiftly and accurately
Working with senior colleagues to research, develop and deliver new communication channels, activities and processes to continually improve how we inform and engage with audiences both internally and externally.
What we need from you
Preferably experience of having worked in a busy and hard-working communications team before, ideally for a public sector organisation.
An understanding of key messages and how to deliver these through excellent and creative content for different stakeholders, audiences and channels.
Ability to be able to use digital and social media communication tools and software to create, edit and publish exciting content on many platforms, including film and audio.
Confidence to talk to people at all levels and be able to persuade people that communications done well makes all the difference.
Being exceptionally well organised with the ability to manage and accurately prioritise competing and tight deadlines.
Comfortable to work on your own initiative taking a 'can-do' approach in order to find solutions to unexpected challenges and obstacles.
The ability to be flexible with working hours, including taking part in an out of hours rota.

In order to support the Council's requirement to save a further GBP 41 million from its budget, by collective agreement, from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2020 there is a temporary 1.15% pay reduction from the advertised substantive salary quoted, which will be spread out by means of a weekly/monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure three additional day's leave (pro rata for part time workers and new starters in year) will be granted.
