Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is an impressive Council with a renewed strong sense of direction. The Council is embarking upon an unprecedented level of regeneration which is seeking to deliver real and substantial improvements to the quality of life of its residents.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join the Council as its Climate Change Officer. It is a great time to join the Council as we address the ‘call to action’ to urgently reduce carbon emissions both from the Council’s operations and throughout the Borough as a whole, whilst building resilience to climate change and also to support climate priorities within the South Yorkshire area and Yorkshire and Humber region.
The post holder, reporting to the Climate Change Manager, will be responsible for a number of Sustainability and Climate Change projects, working across all directorates with a whole council approach, engaging with key stakeholders both internally and externally to determine business requirements and identifying environmental benefits. You will support the Climate Change Manager in the in-putting and assessment of Carbon Impact Assessments which will support both Cabinet and other decision making processes.
You will be responsible for the development of business cases which seek to secure senior officer and elected Member commitment to scope and purpose whilst providing excellent support during service redesign and change management activities.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2024 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
