This is a 3-year apprenticeship integrated training programme to become a Public Health Practitioner gaining a BSc in Public Health (Hons). It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in promoting, improving, and protecting health to be trained to become a certified and registered public health practitioner. It is a paid work- based route into public health roles.
You will be supported by the University of Sunderland for a proportion of the week. The rest of your time will be spent as part of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council Public Health Team working across the council and partners, undertaking different public health tasks and projects. You will be fully supported to succeed.
This apprenticeship programme starts in September 2021.
The post is an entry level Public Health development post and as such you will develop specialist knowledge and skills to work across all the domains of public health; health protection, healthcare public health and health improvement.
You will undertake a Public health practitioner (integrated degree) Level 6 apprenticeship. Full details can be found at: https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/
The degree will be accredited by Sunderland University but you will be part of a Yorkshire and Humber group who will study remotely and in locations in Yorkshire. The applicant will not need to travel to Sunderland University for study.
Please note the training provider Sunderland University requires candidates to have A Levels or equivalent to the value of 112 UCAS points. (Lesser qualifications may be accepted where the applicant is able to demonstrate experience). They will also require a second stage application process for University entry.
This is an exciting new apprenticeship programme for someone who is enthusiastic and willing to learn and want a career in Public Health. You will be part of a dynamic Public Health Team working to improve the health and wellbeing of Rotherham residents. As part of a matrix working team, you will have the opportunity to work across the many Public Health challenges faced by our residents, and to understand both the health and social care systems that respond to these challenges.
We are looking for someone who has good communication skills both verbal and written. Some experience of networking and collaborative multi-agency working. Experience of community development or work in a community or neighbourhood setting (paid or unpaid). Able to work with and relate to a range of partners from diverse agencies and backgrounds and knowledge of the principles of protecting and improving public health. The ability to analyse and interpret information in an effective manner to recommend an appropriate course of action to address the issue(s) would be an advantage.

This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions).
From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2022 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
