We are seeking an experienced Theatre Manager who will lead the development of Rotherham Council’s performing arts offer at Rotherham Civic Theatre.
This dynamic team is responsible for the delivery of the diverse programme of performances at Rotherham Civic Theatre, outreach and engagement programmes across local communities, development of commercial business areas across Box Office, Bar & Hospitality, Sponsorship & Donations and Fundraising.
Rotherham Civic Theatre houses a 356 seat auditorium with a proscenium arch stage. Rotherham Civic Theatre welcomes more than 70,000 customers a year with a programme of professional and amateur shows and the much-loved annual pantomime. The service is a busy, fast-paced and creative environment with a growing focus on programming, participation and outreach, working with artists, creatives, touring companies and promoters to bring new and exciting experiences to Rotherham, alongside liaising with major funders and delivery partners.
Rotherham Council is now seeking an energetic and creative Theatre Manager with experience of developing ambitious, imaginative and engaging performing arts programmes for its auditorium, small spaces and community settings. The ideal candidate will have extensive networks of artists, performers and touring shows, a proven track record of curating and hosting performing arts festivals, and the ability to fundraise for these programmes, and demonstrable knowledge and experience of successfully managing a performing arts venue.
We’re looking for someone who can champion performing arts within the Rotherham Civic Theatre and across the borough, nurturing new talents and collaborating with other local services and organisations to deliver experimental and exciting new experiences for diverse audiences in Rotherham.
This role is a key strategic role leading a small but effective theatre team in the delivery of the Council’s core performing arts programme.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
Experience and proven track record of developing and delivering high-quality, creative and imaginative performing arts programmes for a range of ages and audiences
Proven track record of managing successful venues at both an operational and strategic level
Proven experience and track record of managing budgets and developing successful funding bids
Knowledge and experience of audience development programmes and evaluation techniques
Knowledge and experience of current Safeguarding requirements relating to performing arts settings & working with vulnerable communities
Experience of working with a diverse range of audiences, and a good understanding of current equalities, inclusion and accessibility practices
Experience of managing, coaching and developing staff teams and volunteers
Experience of managing and reporting associated with complex contracts and funding agreements
Desirable Knowledge & Experience
Knowledge and experience of major capital programmes
Previous experience of working with Arts Council England and other major arts funders, in particular experience of the reporting and monitoring process
This post is eligible for hybrid working but will be based at Rotherham Civic Theatre with events and festivals taking place across the borough.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2024 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year.
